What we have learnt from the Ebola Viral Disease (EVD) in Nigeria.

I must applaud all the key players in Nigeria that helped to quickly curb the EVD outbreak. However, one should not rest on his/her oars, knowing that this outbreak is still ravaging other parts of West Africa. While we do not necessarily have to go about with gloves and masks, it is very important that high levels of personal hygiene are maintained in every quarter. I have never seen people more conscious about hand hygiene like I have observed in the past few months. This is indeed a welcome development. It is important to note that what we have learnt in the course of the EVD outbreak, if continuously practiced, can reduce the number of times we come down with infectious diseases. A lot of infectious diseases are transmitted through person to person contact and the hands are key in the transmission of germs, because they harbor a lot of them.
